Bed bug feces are sticky. The dark splotches on your mattress bedspread and pillows come from the feces of bed bugs that have been feeding on you during the night. If you observe specks of what appear to be blood rust or tar on upholstered furniture mattresses bedding or mattress pads you may have the start of a bed bug problem. One of the best ways to check for bed bugs is to watch out for bed bug shells and blood spots on sheets.

The stains are mostly from feces and blood. When bed bugs are infesting a wall outlet you may see streaks on the outlet cover or streaks on baseboards. Cold water washing might do the trick for fresh light stains. For treating bed bug poop stains or blood stains on walls mix together baking soda and water to make a paste.

You can recognize early bed bug infestation by looking for stains that they leave behind. For this reason they can often be seen as tiny specks stuck to wood cloth carpeting or walls. Bed bugs shed an outer shell in five of six stages in their life cycle so watch for reddish brown or yellow shells in couch seams throughout your mattress and box spring and on any upholstered furniture 1 2 3 4. Stains from feces have a rusty colour that is difficult to clean from bedding and linen. Dab with tissue and let air dry. On paint there should be staining around the feces and often trails running down the wall. That way you can take care of any bed bugs early before they start to spread.
